East African Shea Butter vs. West African Shea Butter
Moyaa's Grade A Shea Butter (as certified by the American Shea Butter Institute) and Moringa Oil is imported from Uganda, in East Africa.
All unrefined Shea has remarkable benefits. However, there are some differences between Shea Butter harvested from East Africa and West Africa.
The Shea Nut comes from the Karite tree. There are two distinct species of this tree, the Vitellaria Paradoxa, which grows in West Africa, and the Vitellaria Nilotica, which is the East African tree that our Shea Butter is harvested from.
You can tell the difference between East African and West African Shea Butter by its texture. East African Shea butter will be softer and creamier due to a higher concentration of Olien, which is liquid oils. East African Shea Butter has a lower melting point and is easier to lather into your skin, making it an incredible moisturizer.
West African Shea Butter is higher in stearin, solid fats. It will be harder to the touch and will have a more intense smell than the East African strand. Due to its higher fat concentration, it is rich in Vitamins, making it great for healing the surface of your skin.
